Week 16 Rankings

Ladies and gentlemen.  This most likely will be the last rankings of the year, as I will be out and about enjoying a little vacation next Wednesday.  This last rankings post won't be nearly as entertaining as last week (said I had 26 freaking pageviews, all on 12/12 last week!!! and I've also taken a self-imposed hiatus from partying until New Years Ever as I destroyed my body from the Epic Wednesday party and have been sick for almost two weeks now), but I promise to leave you with an entertaining wrap up article once the fantasy season is over.  Most likely that will consist of me bitching, but I'll try and throw in a little analysis, and maybe even a few recommendations for next year's fantasy football season.

Without further ado, here are the FINAL RANKINGS OF 2012!!!!!!!

Week 15 Rankings

First let me apologize to everyone for not posting any rankings last week.  There is no excuse; however you're going to hear one anyways.

So here's the story:

Sitting at work at 7:00 at night last Wednesday (not something I ever enjoy, but I had no choice) my buddy sends me a text:  "Butter, what are you doing tonight?"  For those of you who don't know, Butter is my nickname.  There's a long semi-boring story behind it, which I will save for another time.

So anyways, he asks me what I'm doing, which I respond with, "At work, leaving shortly, going home to eat dinner.  But if you want to get up to a shenanigan or two, I'm up for it.  I could use a drink anyways after the day I've had."

I get a phone call immediately following the text from my buddy saying he's staying at a hotel tonight in the city of Pittsburgh because he has business he needs to do early in the morning the next day.  He asks if I want to hang out tonight, dinner, maybe a bar or two, see where the night goes.  Of course I say yes.

About two hours later I'm sitting a Japanese steak house called Nakama eating filet mignon and fried rice (which actually wasn't that good at all even though I had been told Nakama had great food).  We finish that, I look at my phone and see what bars are around us.  Turns out a bar called Carson City Saloon has $2.00 Crown Royal drinks every Wednesday from 10:00-12:00.  Crown is our favorite type of alcohol, so clearly we have to go.

One hour later and $18.00 worth of Crown Royal drinks (so freaking cheap.  Usually at least $5.00 a drink, and in this case we each had about 4 drinks a piece for only $18.00), we ask this young kid bartending what is there to do around here, whic is code for, where do the hot chicks hang out on a Wednesday night.  He says this bar a couple blocks down has a college crowd that picks up around 11:30 at night.

Night is young, so we go.  Place is slightly dead but we decide to post up at the corner of the bar anyways.  We order a couple more drinks (Crown Royal still) and proceed to shout out random names at the hot bartender until we can get her to turn around and look at us.  Turns out her name is Sam.  I had guessed Samantha on about my 10th name, so I was real close.

We have one more drink, my buddy turns me and says, hey, go talk to that guy at the table behind us (a group of about 10 people alltogether, a mix of girls and guys) and tell him that we are we work for Crown Royal and that we want to buy him a drink.  I look at him and ask if he's serious, and he says absolutely.

So I say to myself, what the hell, I can make this guy believe we work for Crown Royal.  I walk over to the guy, introduce myself as a representative of Crown Royal, point to my buddy and say he is one too, and then finish by saying we want to buy him a drink.  Of course he doesn't believe me at first, so I say, come on man, seriously, why the hell would I randomly walk up to you introudce myself as a Crown Royal Rep, and offer to buy you a drink if it's not true.  So he goes, yeah man, you're right, it's too ridiculous not to be true.

So we buy him a drink, the other 8-9 people a drink, all of Crown Royal of course since we are Crown Royal reps.  Then we all do a shot of Crown Royal together.  At that point my buddy and are feeling chocolate wasted, so as we are standing at the corner of the bar that we've hijacked, as anyone comes up (only girls of course at this point), we offer to buy them a drink.  Of course they look suspiciously at us, but they figure it's a free drink, so why the hell not.

This goes on for a while, drinking lots of Crown Royal, I meet a group of 3 girls, of which one is pretty cute, so my buddy says to go for it, and I do.  I chat her up a little.  Turns out she loves the Green Bay Packers!!!!  I'm like, freaking awesome, my favorite team too!!!

As I'm talking to this girl my buddy says he wants to leave, I say sure, I turn to the girl and say, hey do you and your friends want to come with us.  She wants to know we are going, I tell her where (which I cannot speak of in this blog as it is inappropriate, but two drunk guys, I'm sure you can figure it out), she says she really wants to go with us which surprises the hell out of me and I think is completely awesome!!  She asks her friends, they suck and say no, and she says she can't leave her friends.  So my buddy and walk out the door, catch a cab and take off.  (should have got her phone number by the way, but oh well, not used to doing that)

Yada Yada Yada, I get home at 5:00 in the morning and wake up an hour and 15 minutes later to shower and go to work.

So that's my excuse.  I won't lie, going out with my buddy, way more fun than ranking fantasy football players.  But nontheless I apologize to those of you who depend on this week and week out, while at the same point, seriously, at 31 and single, you can't blame me.

Week 13 Rankings

Alright kids, this is the last week for most of you prior to the fantasy football playoffs.  Some of you are sitting pretty and have already clinched your playoff spot; which means that you most likely are going to ride the players that got you there, so feel free to ignore any of my upcoming rambling.

Others may be fighting for a nice little wild card spot, while others are sitting there wishing they hadn't wasted $100 as they are currently residing in the basement of their league.

So for those last two scenarios, I feel for you, cause I'm fighting for the playoffs in 2 leagues and residing in the cellar of the other one (unfortunately the $100 league).

But regardless of what situation you find yourself in, as I say every year, DON'T STOP PLAYING!!!!!  That goes especially to those already out of the playoffs.  Too many times over the years I've seen people just give up cause they aren't playing for anything anymore and they stop caring about picking up guys off the waiver wire or starting players with better matchups.  I plead with you, don't be one of these people!!!  Continuing to play keeps the league balanced and doesn't allow the top tier teams to stack there rosters from the waiver wire going in to the playoffs, and hell you may even beat one of those teams to at least salvage some pride.

With that said, here are your rankings for week 13!!!

Week 12 Rankings

First let me apologize for any of you who rely on my rankings being posted on Wednesday.  I had completely intended to post them yesterday, however I got a little distracted partying it up on the biggest party night of the year and wasn't home until 10:30 last night, and with absolutley no energy to spend a couple of hours putting the rankings together.

But fear not, I woke up early this beautiful Thanksgiving morning to spend some time getting the rankings together, and without further ado, as I need to get ready to go to my Aunt and Uncle's house in Youngstown, OH for a great Thanksgiving Day, here are the rankings!!!

Week 11 Rankings

Praise the lord!!!  Hallelujah!!!  God Save the Queen!!!  Whatever you want to say, Romeo Crennell finally, finally, finally decided that he should probably give the ball to his best player, Jamaal Charles.  And shocker!!!!!!!  Charles carried the ball 23 times for 100 yards, and 1 touchdown.  And after starting 1-7, they took the Pittsburgh Steelers to OT (eventually lost, which disappointed me as I despise the Steelers, but at least they made it game).  So amazing what happens when you give your best player the touches he needs.  Not only does it create a nice day for fantasy owners (like myself who owns him in all 3 of his leagues) but also gives you the chance to win a real life football game against a pretty good (disgusts me to say that) team.

So that means to me that Romeo must have read my blog a few weeks ago when I blasted him.  Clearly I have the power to influence change on the grand NFL stage.  So if you need any messages passed on, just let me know and I'll be sure to pass them on.

Week 11 Bye Weeks:
Minnesota Vikings:  Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin, Kyle Rudolph, D/ST
New York Giants:  Eli Manning, Ahmad Bradshaw, Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks, Martellus Bennett
Seattle Seahawks:  Marshawn Lynch, D/ST
Tennessee Titans:  Chris Johnson, Kenny Britt, Kendall Wright, Nate Washington, Jared Cook

Really not too many players on the bye, but pay close attention to Denarius Moore in my WR Rankings, making his first appearance in the top 10 ever!!!!  Helps that he's playing the most atrocious defense in the league in the New Orleans Saints! (also note that Carson Palmer makes it in to the top 10 QBs as well for the same reason)

Week 10 Rankings

I don't even know where to start with this week's post.  I want to complain about how the fact in my big money league that every single freaking week, whoever I'm playing against, seems to have the best score they have had up to that point in the season.  Seriously, just ridiculous!!!  And it's not like my team sucks.  They don't, even with stupid fat Romeo Crennel single handidly trying to take my fantasy season and flush it down the toilet by never giving Jamaal Charles the ball.  I manage to put up a respectable score most weeks.  But whatever, you don't come to my blog to hear me complain.

What you do come for is for the rankings.  I'm officially over 1,000 pageviews total for the life of my blog (3 years), reaching a total, as of 10 minutes ago, of 1,027 pageviews!!!  So thanks to all who have supported my blog and make me want to keep on posting every week!!

Week 10 Bye Weeks:
Cleveland Browns:  Trent Richardson (seriously, no on else matters on that team, but maybe Brandon Weeden in the future.  Shame he's 29 and just a rookie.)
Green Bay Packers:  Aaron Rodgers, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, James Jones, Alex Green, D/ST
Arizona Cardinals:  Larry Fitzgerald, LaRod Stephens-Howling, D/ST
Washington Redskins:  Robert Griffin III, Alfred Morris

Week 9 Rankings

Romeo Crennel, the head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, is by the far the worst coach in the history of the NFL!!!!!!  I thought maybe it was just because he was coaching the Cleveland Browns in the past couple of years and he had nothing to work with that made him bad, but after watching what he has done with the Chiefs so far this year, I can absolutely say he is the worst coach I have ever seen (and that's not even getting in to the fact that he's obese and looks completely disinterested every time the camera is on him).  How, I ask you how, do you only give Jamaal Charles, one of the best and most complete backs in the league, only 5 freaking carries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Seriously, one of the most explosvie and dynamic running backs only gets 5 carries?  That Romeo Crennel is why you have only won 1 game all year, and that came against the Saints who have the worst defense in the league in OT!

You should be ashamed of yourself for pretending that you possess even an ounce of football knowledge, and owners of the Chiefs, you should be ashamed for letting nicely plump Crennel dupe you in to hiring him.  Which means obviously that while he sucks at coaching, he's real real good at interviewing.  So congrats to you on that Crennel, you are the world's best interviewer and at the same time the world's worst football coach.  You embarass me personally as I own Jamaal Charles in all 3 of my leagues and he put up one of the most putrid stat lines a top 5 fantasy back has ever put up thanks to your blatant idiotness of givng your best player only 5 carries.  Plus, I had him as my #1 back in Week 8's rankings, embrassing me even further.  I hate you Romeo Crennel.  The End!!!

Ok, now that I have blasted Crennel, let's move on to the bye weeks and rankings!

Teams on Bye (get these players out of your lineup!!):
New England Patriots:  Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Stevan Ridley (this is going to hurt a lot of people this week if they drafted backups poorly)
New York Jets:  Shonn Greene (the Jets suck, but I felt bad not including anyone, so I chose Greene)
San Francisco 49ers:  Frank Gore, Alex Smith, Vernon Davis, Michael Crabtree, D/ST
St. Louis Rams:  Steven Jackson and maybe some of you own the Rams D/ST

If you need to pick anyone up, look at your waiver wire and compare to the rankings below.  If you have any questions, either e-mail me at mattymccall@gmail.com or post a comment.

Week 7 Rankings

Currently talking to my buddy on the phone about a whole bunch of crap, none of which is at all relatable to fantasy football except for the fact that for my 31st birthday a bunch of the guys are coming over and we're drinking, eating pizza, and watching every football game on the Direct TV ticket.

So wish me a happy birthday and if you don't see me post a weekly rankings article next Wednesday, that means I died while celebrating my birthday weekend, but I died happy.

Six teams on bye this week:

Atlanta Falcos
Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs
Miami Dolphins
Philadelphia Eagles
San Diego Chargers

Keeping it short and sweet as I need to do some research in to places in Pittsburgh that you can dance that have no smoking, yet you can still have a conversation if you want.  That probably leaves me with no options at all, but I'm determined!!!

Any questions, comments, thoughts, doesn't even have to be about fantasy football, post a comment to the blog or e-mail mattymccall@gmail.com.

Week 6 Rankings

Where did you go Egypt????!!!!!  After 8 page views last week from Egypt, they have completely disappeared this week to a total of 0!!  But on a positive note, The Ukraine is not weak, as they registered 1 official page view this past week to match Australia's total as well.  The U.S. was strong this past week with 8 page views.

But seriously, you're not here to listen to me ramble on and on about my viewing audience, as I'm sure it matters in the least to you.  You're here to see what the Consigliere has to say this week about who to start and who to sit based on the good 'ol rankings.

So first things first; teams on a bye for Week 6:

Carolina Panthers
Chicago Bears
Jacksonville Jaguars
New Orleans Saints

So if you drafted Cam Newton or Drew Brees, take a look at the 11-25 spots on the QB rankings and see who is the highest player I have ranked still available in your league that you may need (cough cough, Andrew Luck, cough cough).

Other big name players out this week are Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles, and Marques Colston from the New Orleans Saints, Maurice Jones Drew from the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte from the Chicago Bears.  So take a peek at my rankings and you just might find yourself a solid fill in.

Any questions, comments, or thoughts, post a comment or e-mail mattymccall@gmail.com.

Week 5 Rankings

First let me say I don't know what happened in Egpyt on October 1st, but whatever it was, it provided me with 9 pageviews of this blog in one day, which I think is an all time record.  So thanks to the country of Egpyt for somehow stumbling across this blog accidentally, and if for some reason you are really in to Fantasy Football, I hope you come back for some more.  (Second place goes to Russia with 3 page views within the last week, so kudos to you Russia.)

4 teams on bye this week; Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  So make sure you get any players from these teams out of your lineups.  Because of this you may see some new players in the 30-50 range for RB and WR, so be sure to scope those out.  Also, Greg Jennings is not playing this Sunday, so everyone in the Packers receiving corps gets a boost in the rankings, particularly James Jones, who most likely is the #1 waiver pickup in your league.

If you have any questions, comments, ideas, whatever it may be, post a comment on this blog or e-mail mattymccall@gmail.com.

Week 4 Rankings

Welcome to Week 4, start of the bye weeks.  So keep in mind both the Indianapolis Colts and the Pittsburgh Steelers have the bye this week.  Me being from Pittsburgh, and not a Steelers fan, it will be a nice change of pace to not have to here the constant analysis leading up to the game and then the incessant moaning and complaining after the Steelers lose.  Although I will say, after the Steelers lose, I do get a modicum of enjoyment listening to everyone act like the season is over.

Now, let's talk about the important stuff;  the freaking Monday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers (my favorite team) and the Seattle Seahwaks.  First let me say I understand why people think sports is rigged from time to time with that atrocity of a call on the last play of the game.  Secondly, let me say that I've seen the referees huddle over a simple false start penalty and take a minute to figure out what the hell they are supposed to do, yet on the last play of the game no such huddle occurred at all.  What the hell?!  One ref calls interception and the other calls touchdown.  You don't think that disagreement should result in a referee huddle?  Where the hell was the stupid head referee?  Not doing his damn job, that's where he was!!!!  Just utterly ridiculous.

Now that I've gotten the anger out of the way, let's move on to the rankings.  Because of the bye weeks and injuries you may see some players in the 35-40 range for both RB and WR that normally aren't there, but if you need to stretch someone, I suggest you take a look at them.

As always, any questions, thoughts, concerns, either post a comment or e-mail mattymccall@gmail.com.

Week 3 Rankings

Greetings loyal followers (I think someone from an Eastern European country is reading this, so however you say hello in your language, hello)!!!

First and foremost, Hakeem Nicks and Ahmad Bradshaw are NOT PLAYING tomorrow on the Thursday night game against the Carolina Panthers.  Hakeem Nicks is quite perplexing since he just put up 199 yards receiving this past week, but apparently his surgically repaired foot is hurting after all that use this past Sunday.  Therefore he sits.  My analysis is that the targets have to go somewhere, and that someone is going to be the tight end Martellus Bennett.  If he's in your league and you are weak at the TE position, I'd say pick him up.  Certainly worth a gamble, particularly since he did score a TD this past week.

Second, for you owners of Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, and Matthew Stafford (owners which include myself), hang in there.  Their seasons, whether real or fantasy, have been pretty mediocore so far.  ButI say don't panic.  You drafted these guys in the first or second round, so you're going to live or die by them unless you get one hell of a trade offer (like a top 5 RB and top 5 WR) and your backup quarterback is Robert Griffin III.  I'm inclined to think that what we've seen from all 3 for the first 2 weeks is only an anomaly.  You can't keep former league MVPs like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady down, and regardless of what happens with the Lions, you always know Matthew Stafford is going to throw for near 300 yards every week cause the Lions love throwing the ball.

With that out of the way, take a peek at the rankings below and if you have any questions e-mail mattymccall@yahoo.com or post a comment.  Thanks for reading!!

Week 2 Rankings

Well here we are.  First official rankings of the year.  I would have had them up sooner tonight but Angelina Jolie has been on FX for the last 4 hours and she is rather distracting.  But you would think that seeing the same movies at least 3 to 4 times each would be enough.  Again though, it's Angelina Jolie.

Enough about her though.  The rankings seem pretty straight forward, except for I will mention the fact that Greg Jennings is not ranked anywhere within the top 50 wide receivers.  As of right now he is listed as doubtful with a groin injury, which as a Packers fan makes me not too happy.  My personal feelings aside, Green Bay plays the Chicago Bears on this weeks Thursday night game, making the possibility of Jennings playing in my mind about 15%.  That's not enough to put him in the top 50, so he's excluded this week.  As a result, you will see that Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and James Jones are ranked slightly higher than normal.

Other than that, nothing too out of the ordinary.  So as always, if you have any questions, thoughts, concerns, you can post a comment to this post or you can e-mail me at mattymccall@gmail.com.  Your choice.

2012-2013 Fantasy Football Draft Rankings

So I don't normally post any draft rankings prior to the start of the season as I don't want my competiton to have any insight whatsoever into who I value over who and what my possible strategy is for the current years draft.  So Todd, if you read this, and I see you this coming Sunday with my rankings printed out on your lap, I'm probably going to accidentally drop a plate full of buffalo chicken dip and a beer all over them.

That being said, I had a few co-workers who were very interested in my knowledge and had heard through the grapevine that I was some kind of fantasy "expert" or "guru."  By no means do I claim that I'm either of those things, but I'm certainly not above bragging that out of the 6 years I've been playing fantasy football, I've made the playoffs in at least one league 5 out of those 6 years, winning twice, one in a 14 team league (1st time ever in a league larger than 12 teams by the way).

Needless to say, my co-workers stroked my ego just enough for me to forgo my stance on never posting draft rankings, so I gave in and decided that what the hell, I'm just hurting all those loyal fans of my blog out there (and don't think I forget about you crazy Russians somehow constantly looking at my blog from last year).  So without further ado, here are my 2012-2013 Fantasy Football Draft Rankings!!

Disclaimer:  I'm not entirely sure what will happen when you click on the link.  If it opens up a spreadsheet for you, there should be tabs for each position along the bottom that you can click on.  If it takes to you some kind of document website and just has a bunch of pages that looks nothing like Excel, here's a table of contents for what position is on each page.
